Why Does Hair Transplant Recovery Take So Long?

Hair transplant recovery follows specific biological processes. The transplanted grafts need time to take root and new hair follicles need time to grow. With proper care, you'll see your final, permanent results at 12 months.

Day 0 (Surgery Day)

• The recipient area will appear red and sensitive
• Small scabs begin forming in the donor area
• Mild swelling and tightness are normal
• Take prescribed medications (antibiotics, pain relief) as directed

Days 1–3

• Swelling around the forehead and eyes is normal
• First wash performed according to clinic instructions (usually Day 2)
• Avoid direct sunlight
• Suitable for flying home (with clinic approval)

Week 1

• Scabs continue to form — do NOT touch or scratch
• Donor area is healing well
• Avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting
• Regular washing with clinic-recommended lotion

Weeks 2–4

• Scabs fall off naturally
• Transplanted hairs begin to shed — DO NOT PANIC! This "shock loss" is completely normal
• Follicles remain alive beneath the skin surface

Months 2–4

• New hair begins emerging (initially fine and colourless)
• Patchy appearance during this phase is temporary
• Avoid hair dye and harsh chemicals

Months 5–8

• Hair visibly thickens and lengthens
• Natural colour and texture return
• 60–70% of the final result is visible

Months 9–12

• Hair fully matures and reaches final density
• 100% of the final result is apparent
• Natural appearance and texture fully established

Care Tips

• Don't sleep face-down for the first 10 days
• Apply sunscreen for the first month
• Avoid hot hair dryer settings for 3 months
• Maintain a protein-rich diet to support hair growth
